April 2026: We're excited to finally launch this, our official web-site, even though there's still so much more that we'll be adding as time passes. But it's been a labour of love and dedication, inspired, primarily, by a deep love and respect for our particular recipient of adoration, the precious Mourning Dove.
And it's been an experience not fore-seen, not only in lessons of "time" but in meeting new people we never expected to become acquainted with. Amazing, in it's own respect, with regard to the potential of the internet, often seen as impersonal. Hopefully it will entertain and inspire many others to develop a better understanding and familiarity with what is other-wise considered "just a common presence" in the yards of so very many North American back yards (patios, porches and gardens too). The information pages will be a repository of information garnered from a great deal of research, condensed from a multitude of sources as well as personal experience, time devoted to observation on a direct basis. Since this site and the related adventures can, unfortunately, require financial backing, we decided to put "spare time" (a rare commodity these days) to better use by creating crafts of interest to other "avian admirers" (and some other items that aren't particularly "avian" but will hopefully be desirable) and rather than simply soliciting voluntary funds, offer a variety of merchandise. Yes, they're "purchases", but they're our way of giving back to our supporters, our "Thank You" with some reminders of kind generosity. Our current note cards have been created with particular attention to details, from materials to the time invested. The "Note Cards", *Limited Edition* are the result of approximately 2 months of daily work. AND, they were a source of surprise and learning. An image was sent to me via e-mail, from a friend who knew of my love for Mourning Doves and I never questioned the source. I rather assumed it was a product of "AI", something I'm only just becoming familiar with. The details were striking and inspired me to take water-colours in had and try my hand at a more personal reproduction. When I showed the finished product, the reactions were so encouraging that I decided to make one "Thank You" note card with a smaller version, hand-cut and affixed to a blank note card that I'd sent to the friend who'd provided me with the original image. The response to that card was truly impressive and it was suggested that I create more and make them available to others and so, I began, sizing, adjusting the print to present the best-possible details and when a set of 5 cards was complete, decided to venture into the world of "Etsy" where it was suggested, is a niche particular to higher-end personally-created crafts. To my shock and embarrassment, I was contacted by the individual who had painstakingly created the original photograph of the Mourning Dove in flight! The photo was taken by Jocelyn Anderson an avid photographer and fellow admirer of birds of all sorts, including my beloved Mourning Doves! When she brought to my attention that the image was hers, the cards were immediately taken from the Etsy shop. I resigned to using them for my own correspondences, never intending a "copyright" violation, and with the deepest respect to her work. After some correspondence, Ms. Anderson graciously gave her permission to keep the cards on offer, an honour I could never express proper gratitude for. And as we corresponded, I came to realise that, for quite some time, I'd been a "follower" of her on "Twitter/X"! Her photographs, videos and comments so greatly appreciated and enjoyed! The internet brought us together, across the miles, and introduced me to more of her amazing works! The cards are still on offer for purchase and I've learned how to verify sources of images to avoid another shocking moment. Meanwhile, there's work to be done here, on this site, information that has been compiled over a period of some 6 years, all in the hopes of providing protection to and for just one aspect of the Greater World we all co-habitate. Looking forward to many more hours and days of compiling and presenting. (I'm site-building and content-creating simultaneously here so it might be a bit slow-going for a while. And more "merchandise" is being created in the meanwhile so...) Thanks for coming by. PLEASE come back and check-up and check-in. AND PLEASE do yourself a kindness as be sure to look at the strikingly impressive works of Jocelyn Anderson at her web-site. (Where-ever you see her name here, on the site, it's a clickable link to her site.) |
